Welcome to the September edition of Mopomoso TV, with contributions from a truly international line-up of artists. This programme brings together improvisers, dancers, filmmakers and sound artists in a wide range of collaborations: from intimate duos to large ensembles, from visual experimentation to audience participation.

Programme List with Bios

Opening – Chaos poems / mcddavid
mcddavid is an artist, filmmaker, and co-founder of stattwerke, an open laboratory for composers and improvisers founded in 1995. His work spans live improvisation, video and curation.

Lawrence Casserley & Guilherme Rodrigues – Signal processing & cello
Casserley is a pioneer of live electronic processing. Rodrigues, a Portuguese cellist based in Berlin, explores new timbres and extended techniques. Recorded live in Seesen, Germany, August 2025.

Intro: Sylvia Hallett
Hallett is a composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work combines violin, voice, bowed objects and electronics. A long-standing figure in the London scene, she is known for her poetic Mopomoso introductions.

Petra Haller & Paul Jolly – Dance & bass clarinet
Haller is a London-based dancer specialising in improvisation. Jolly, active since the 1970s, is a saxophonist and clarinettist in free improvisation and community music.

Josephine Dyer & Pascal Marzan – Dance, microtonal guitar & effects
Dyer is a dancer whose improvisations extend musical dialogue through movement. Marzan, based in Paris, is known for his mastery of the 10-string microtonal guitar.

Caroline Cecilia Tallone & Sofia Borges – Hurdy-gurdy & percussion
Tallone bridges traditional and experimental approaches on hurdy-gurdy. Borges is a percussionist and sound artist exploring theatrical aspects of performance.

Hui-Chun Lin & Lan Hungh – Cello, performance & percussion
Lin, a Taiwanese cellist, works across experimental and cross-disciplinary projects. Lan Hungh is a performer and percussionist whose practice spans visual art, dance and sound. Their duo Elephant Dance unites body and instrument.

Ensemble Discoveries – Giant Squid
Featuring Klaus Kürvers and Ulf Mengersen (double basses), Matthias Müller (trombone), Uygur Vural and Hui-Chun Lin (cellos). Recorded by Felix Petry for Tonhallen Konzertvideo.

Anja Kreysing – Accordion & electronics
Kreysing is a German accordionist and sound artist. Angel – Woven by Water is a video excerpt first shown at SEE Djerba Festival in Tunisia, layering river imagery with accordion, electronics and field recordings.

Intro: Matt Clark
Clark is a UK-based artist and improviser working across sound and visual media.

Gus Garside & Tansy Spinks – Double bass & violin
Garside is a double bassist in free improvisation and a founder of Brighton’s Safehouse collective. Spinks is a London-based artist and improviser, performing on violin, objects and voice, and active in sound art and dance.

Adrian Southby & Mark Wastell – Prepared guitar & percussion
Southby is a Brighton-based multi-instrumentalist exploring unorthodox sound worlds. Wastell is a London percussionist central to the UK scene for over 25 years, with projects ranging from Derek Bailey to John Zorn.

Safehouse Quartet – Garside / Spinks / Southby / Wastell
The quartet unites the duos above, recorded at The Rose Hill, Brighton, July 2025, as part of Safehouse’s programme linking Brighton and London improvisers.

Lawrence Casserley & Pascal Marzan – Signal processing & microtonal guitar
Recorded live at Atelier Grammophon, Hannover, August 2025.

Dave Tucker – Dynamic Improvisation (inkl. 4tet)
Tucker, guitarist and member of the London Improvisers Orchestra, reflects on improvisation with Tim Fletcher before leading a quartet with Hannah Marshall (cello), Matt Hutchinson (piano) and Alex Ward (clarinet). Recorded at the Vortex, August 2025.

mTOO & Guests – The Inauguration of the Metavirus (2D edit)
mTOO is a collective founded by mcddavid and collaborators, supported by stattwerke international. Since 1995, stattwerke has nurtured cross-disciplinary improvisation. This improvised musical invited artists and audience at the Vortex to participate, with contributions from Sue Ferrar, Armin Sturm, Ulrike Schöller, Jörg Hufschmidt, and Katharine Peddie as “metadance instructor.” Filmed by Ulrike Schöller, Paul Jolly, Michael Wallis and mcddavid.

Closing
This edition of Mopomoso TV spans solos, duos, ensembles and multimedia works from across Europe. It demonstrates the vitality of improvisation not only as music, but as a way of collaborating, sharing and creating live in the moment.
