This is a full day event open to all where participants explore the nature and practice of free improvisation in music through a mixture of; the playing of the music, discussion and simple workshop routines.

The organisers hope to see new and familiar faces. The aim of the day is to create an open and creative space to to share music making and to interact in new musical combinations.

All levels of ability and experience are welcome.

The Open Day will include:

  • A series of small group improvisations of fixed duration.
  • Conversation & discussion between the pieces.
  • A lunch break at the midway point.
  • Workshop type strategies or games may be used however the emphasis will be on musicians playing free improvisation in music in their own time.

This event has been organised by Simon Partridge & Phil Morton who are looking forward to meeting you; hearing your music and sharing your ideas.

Jigsaw is a workshop series hosted by the Improvisers’ Network North West in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire. The design and content of the Jigsaw events is shaped by those who are involved, attend the sessions and share their feedback. The “open day” is an opportunity for improvisers in the North West region firstly to meet, make contact, share introductions as well engage in the playing of the music that is : free improvisation in music.
