FAILURE Co-labs: collaborations with Mary Pearson and Alena Kudera (fashion designer)

WHAT DOES FAILURE LAB WANT FROM YOU:

FAILURE Lab is an exploratory, experimental workshop with a performance focus, open to curious people and practitioners from all backgrounds.

Especially suitable for those interested in body-based performance, and multi-disciplinary improvisation. Mary integrates the visual, physical and vocal to collaboratively explore grey areas, unfamiliar territories and places we’re scared of.

“I had some of the most profound experiences of my creative life in the lab.”
- Dr Scott Thurston, Reader, English and Creative Writing at Salford University

FAILURE Lab includes elements of: contact improvisation, dance, clowning, play, comedy improvisation, devising and choreography, visual composition, costume, voice and text work, and continuous writing.
Mary draws from an eclectic mix of philosophical thought from cultural, queer and feminist theory, and influences from contemporary performance and dance makers.

FAILURE lab investigates expectations absorbed from culture. It attempts to liberate creative power bound up in fear, doubt, worry, or inherited ideals. We practice letting go of success/failure, good/bad, pretty/ugly - binary notions that block the ability to take risks. We create from the radical possibilities within the present, finding moments where virtuosity meets clumsiness, weirdness is perfect imperfection, embarrassment transforms itself into hilarity.
