GIOfest X

We celebrate a decade of GIOfest with guests from around Europe, the US and Australia.

Featured this year will be some of the key pieces composed and commissioned for GIO over the past ten years including work from George Lewis, Jim O’Rourke, Cath Keay, Graeme Wilson, Emma Roche, George Burt and Una MacGlone.

We will also be launching our new CD The Word For It Now which features the ensemble with an array of guests including Marilyn Crispell, Gino Robair, Arnaud Riviere and Johanna Varner.

Special guests at this year’s festival include influential experimental harpist Rhodri Davies, Peter Knight, director of The Australia Art Orchestra, Tender Buttons trio from the US, vocalist Guro Gravem Johansen from Norway and Still Motion’s multi-disciplinary artist and dancer Brian Hartley.

Multi-instrumentalist, composer and music therapist Aby Vulliamy will lead our workshop sessions and Concurrent will be hosting an Open Discussion around improvising across disciplines. We also welcome back one of our most influential collaborators, the inspirational Maggie Nicols along with our long time friend vibraphonist Corey Mwamba all in celebration of ten years of a growing international GIOfest community.
