Merseyside Improvisors Orchestra Concert under the direction of David Leahy and with special guests Paloma Carrasco and Loz Speyer. 27/5/2017  8pm.

Introduction

David Leahy, bass player, composer, improvisor and contact dancer, who’ll be directing the orchestra this month writes about the concept behind the concert.

‘Musicians in space’ is based on the argument that the formal separation and the static positioning of the audience and performer does little to support a musical process, such as free improvisation, that is supposedly built on the close inter-relationship of all the elements of a performance ecosystem.
The Orchestra, needless to say are really excited about exploring his concept, and intrigued about how it will change the way we play and sound. Also for this concert we’ll be joined by old friends, the Spanish cellist and dancer Paloma Carrasco and trumpet player Loz Speyer. Loz returning again after directing the orchestra for their successful Sun Ra celebration and, Paloma after playing solo and with the orchestra for the concert in July 2016.
