BADLAND is Simon Rose alto/ baritone saxophones, Simon H Fell double bass, Steve Noble drums. This long-standing trio, originally based in London/ Cambridge are currently spread across three countries: Rose in Berlin, Fell in France and Noble in London. This reunion brings the trio together for a tour supported by Jazz Services and a BBC 'Jazz on 3' session. With a number of radio sessions and 3 critically acclaimed CD releases (Bruce's Fingers/ Emanem) one of the things BADLAND has received a variety of positive feedback for has been the ability to go beyond the 'sax plus bass and drums' tag/trap in addition to sustained intensity. The trio is a vehicle for the individuals as well as a collective trio - so the group dynamic is deliberately challenged in terms of the musical roles. This came about quite naturally as the trio seemed exist happily at the cusp of free improvisation and free jazz. One obvious development will be the addition of the baritone sax, which is used in balance with the alto.
