aldua/birchall duet
Birchall and Zaldua create a poetry of sound and noise, drawn from multiple vocabularies of free improvisation that mixes drones with rapid entanglements of plucked and bowed strings, and hybrid sounds built from layers of textures and distortion. These knots of sound constellations explore the multiple ways that strings can work with and against each other.
David Birchall is a guitarist, free improviser, composer and organiser living in Manchester, UK. He organises the Curious Ear concert series for improvised music in Manchester which he co-founded with Andrew Cheetham in 2017. He also works as part of sound art duo Noise Orchestra with Vicky Clarke developing light to sound electronics for performance and installation.
Alistair Zaldua is a composer of contemporary, experimental, and improvised music, and is an improviser on the e-violin, and based in Manchester, UK. Since moving to Manchester (2020), Alistair helps organise The Noise Upstairs concert series in Withington, Manchester with Mike Tyldesley.

Snidefinder
Snidefinder is the latest alias of Simon Williams which covers either a set up ranging from Orcutt/Jandek/Dead C-ish ragged, shouty guitar songs, often bunging the guitar through a looper to turn it into a noise sequencer, or, instrumental or more abstract sets mixing in field recordings and other FX for soundscapes and rhythmic blips n squeaks. The set up at its most complex includes guitar and/or mobile phones or more obsolescent devices like tapes /mini disc via effects pedals and a mixer. A second vocal mic can be fed through the FX also. The set up is low tech, partly through budgetary constraints but also its more fun to play with boxes strung together by cables than twiddling a laptop. For this performance the intention is (at the time of writing), to leave both guitar and gob at home and do a soundscape piece. This will based around some of many field recordings accumulated commuting to and from London for the day job. The selection tonight will be linked by the tenuous connection they all occurred on or en route to St Mary Cray. Unless he's changed his mind by then...
