Pascal/Birchall Duo

Pascal Nichols: percussion
David Birchall: guitar

Energetic, physical multi-directional percussion and guitar improvisation

A percussion and guitar duo based in Manchester playing spontaneously improvised free jazz/improv focusing on exploring the rhythm texture and dynamics between the two instruments. Both musicians are fully dedicated to the full investigation of improvisational techniques on their instruments and as performers are absorbed and committed to the act of making music resulting in visceral and engaging performances.

Phil Marks: No longer playing at this gig

Pascal Nichols plays with Part Wild Horses Mane on Both Sides, U Boat, Stuckometer, Chora and a whole host of others.

"Since Chris Corsano has returned to the US... Pascal Nichols has inherited the golden drum stool as the UKs premier young improvising percussionist" - The Wire

David Birchall started playing guitar in 1995 developing a keen interest in improvisation as he learnt to play which has continued ever since. Based in Manchester since 1999 he has toured throughout the UK and Europe with a wide range of improvised and experimental free rock groups including Stuckometer and Levenshulme Bicycle Orchestra. He has also created work with contemporary dancers that has been shown at The Greenroom, Contact Theatre and The Lowry.
