PHIL DURRANT
Born near London in 1957, Phil Durrant is a multi-instrumentalist improviser/composer/sound artist who currently performs solo and group concerts. As a violinist (and member of the Butcher/Russell/Durrant trio), he was one of the key exponents of the “group voice approach” style of improvised music. In the late 90s, his trio with Radu Malfatti and Thomas Lehn represented a shift to a more “reductionist” approach.


Recently, he has been performing solo and duo concerts with Phil Maguire, Bill Thompson, Mark Sanders, Lee Patterson and drone concerts with Mark Wastell, Phi Julian, Rhrodri Davies, Bill Thompson, using an analogue/digital modular synthesizer system. As a mandolinist, he has been performing with guitarist Martin Vishnick and a quartet with Sue Lynch, Hutch Demouilpied and Dave Fowler. Durrant still performs regularly with the acoustic/electronic group Trio Sowari (with Bertrand Denzler and Burkhard Beins) and Mark Wastell’s The SEEN.

JOHN JASNOCH
Sheffield based (born North Kent 1953) multi plucked string instrument specialist & retired Country & Western musician. Has performed solo and in many regular and ad hoc ensembles since becoming involved with improvised music in 1979. Played Derek Bailey’s Company Week in 1988 and toured in the 2000s with free jazz luminaries Sonny Simmons and Linda Sharrock. Currently working in a duo utilising guitars, tape recorders, radios and electronics with Supreme Vagabond Craftsman + duo concerts and larger groups with keyboard/woodwind player Adam Woolf.

Helen Papaioannou
is a composer and baritone/alto saxophonist based in Sheffield, UK. She composes music for live performance, improvises and has a fascination with games and strategies for group interaction. Helen’s music has been performed extensively. She has performed with Kuro, Valentina Magaletti, Damo Suzuki, Eugene Chadbourne and Hannabiell Sanders. Helen is one half of Garlic Hug, a new duo with Alessandro Altavilla. She has played as one third of the band Beauty Pageant, a member of the trio Hokkett, and the band Ponpon.


Hervé Perez
is a composer and improvising musician from France who now lives in England.
He plays saxophones, shakuhachi and laptop in various groups and produces unique music inspired by jazz, contemporary and electroacoustic music, experimental, sound art and sound therapy.
He has released three albums with Inclusion Principle (Discus label), many recordings in collaboration with artists from around the world, and solo work on various netlabels.
He is a member of the sax quartet Hornweb, performs high energy free jazz in a trio with Mick Beck and Adam Woolf and plays electroacoustic music with cellist Maja Bugge and visual artist Adam York Gregory in the multimedia improvising trio ‘Northern’. His solo project Sounding out is an exploration of outdoor acoustics, sacred sites with the saxophone, investigating the nature of space and architecture.

ADAM WOOLF
has been a key part of the improvised music network in Sheffield since moving here from London 5 years ago. His activities extend into innovative electronic compositions, R&B (using its original meaning) and membership of Sheffield’s premier free fusion group QRM.

DAMION WRIGHT
has for some time held the bass chair in South Yorkshire’s provocative social commentary band Man Bites Fridge. He has also been a member of QRM since its inception. Damion is also involved with a number of funk, new wave and experimental noise bands.
