The Open Circuit programme of events for 2019/20 is proud to welcome the Line Upon Line Ensemble for a unique concert.

About this Event

Typically we think of ‘musical gesture’ as being relegated to the domain of sound. But live music is also a fundamentally visual affair — musicians circulate on and off of the stage, move their bodies to play their instruments, and gesture at each other to synchronize and communicate. Historically speaking, these visual elements have been discarded as unimportant or a mere side effect of performance. However, since the second half of the 20th century, some composers have begun to engage with performers’ movements and spatial presence to shape what we hear.

Join us for an exciting concert which examines how movement and physical gesture can shape concert music with guest ensemble Line upon Line (USA). The programme includes pieces by Jessie Marino and Mauricio Pauly, as well as premieres by Aaron Cassidy, Liam Carey, and university students Ian Costabile and Isabel Benito Guttiérrez.

This concert will take place in the Leggate Theatre, located in the Victoria Gallery & Museum at the University of Liverpool.
