INTRODUCTION TO LONG-FORM IMPROVISATION STARTS THURS 23rd MAY FOR 8 WEEKS. 7-9PM

Taught by www.liverpoolcomedyimprov.co.uk

Do you want to explore a longer form of improvisation and stretch your improv skills? Then this course is for you!

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR:
Suitable for people who have been regularly improvising for a while (at least 6 months) and want to stretch themselves and learn a wider range of improv techniques.
Perfect for actors who want to practice and hone their improv skills - an essential tool for auditions and rehearsals.

“Great improv techniques! The course allows you to develop your skills – not just for improv! e.g. thinking fast, lateral thinking, develops character, acting and trust in fellow players”

WHAT IS LONG-FORM IMPROVISATION:
There are many forms of improvisation. From short-form (like Whose Line is it Anyway), to mid-form, organic and long-form. Long-form is about discovering stories slower and for character development to go deeper. It is about great listening skills, making links and creating a narrative, rather than short, sharp, funny-bursting moments (which is more akin to short-form improv).

ABOUT THE COURSE:
This eight week course will introduce you to some fundamental skills and techniques needed to perform long-form. Such as:

Structures & Forms (Harold, La Ronde, Slacker, Narrative, Montage)

Initiating ideas

Editing

Tags & Time-travel

Lateral thinking

Story-building

Character development

Ensemble work

Long-form is NOT about going for the immediate ‘funny’, but sensing what works for the story / scene / character. Long-form can of course be funny – but it doesn’t have to be, nor is that the aim.

The focus and question for all long-form improvisers is: how can we, as an ensemble, create a believable world populated by authentic characters, who have emotional and psychological depth? How can I help make that happen on the fly? We are all actors, directors, editors, ensemble and individual in long-form. There is even more emphasis on working together for ‘the team’ than shorter forms of improv.

All places must be pre-booked on the website:
