Nick Branton & Alvaro Torres

BRANTON // TORRES Duo + Guest MICHAEL METCALFE ::

The duo met in Barcelona whilst both becoming ingrained in the city's vibrant free improvisation scene and attracted by each others various influences began meet to play as often as possible.

Alvaro, after graduating, moved to Nepal where he was involved in various projects with Hindustani musicians, including “Conflux” with Mark Holub (Led Bib). Whist here, Torres also taught at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory. Then, returning to Spain and after further studies at Conservatori del Liceu and University of North Texas, Torres has become a prominent figure in Barcelona's Jazz scene. His new trio, which focuses on free improvisation mixed with jazz, is about to realise their first album, on Fresh Sound Records.

Nick, after a year in Barcelona learning from and playing with some of Europe's most prominent improvisers, has now settled back in Liverpool. Here he has landed back performing regularly across the city. He is currently working on a solo recording, exploring folk and improvised music and also a live project diving into the great clarinet player, Pee Wee Russell's chord-less quartet albums.
