[the workshops are free of charge - serving as a natural and informal selection process for the constitution of the ensemble]

Acting Research Lab is a theatrical laboratory exploring the aesthetics of spontaneity in text-based performance. Its activities include weekly acting workshops open to actors and performers [practitioners and/or students] aged between 18 and 50.

The focus is on training methods that facilitate the actor’s creative agency and spontaneous yet meaningful reaction to text.

Workshops run weekly - every Wednesday afternoon - at the Drama Centre of Liverpool John Moores University starting from Wednesday 3rd Oct 2018.

If you wish to take part or would like more information please make contact with me directly via email by 1 pm on the Tuesday prior to the session, I will then confirm the location of the workshop [please note that the address of the studio is not the one indicated above]. For new participants: please also send a few words describing your performance practice/experience - thank you. The sessions are part of a wider research project and they are free of charge.

The workshop sessions explore how psycho-physical impulses and personal associations can facilitate the coordination of speech and physical acts for the creation of dramatic action.
Activities include: physical and vocal training exercises to foster the performer's receptivity and expand his/her expressive potential; structured improvisations from exercises, movement tasks and text; development of physical and vocal scores; scenic work.

The sessions are led by myself Filippo Romanello - I am a dramaturg, director and researcher at LJMU.
