Introduction
The workshop is focused on exploring a range of approaches that will help us connect more deeply (and playfully!) with our instruments, our sounds, ourselves and each other - including improvisation games, movement, voice work, awareness-building exercises (individually and in groups) and conducted ensemble improvisations.
It's aimed at instrumentalists and singers who might want to take some first steps into free improvisation, all the way to seasoned players who want to approach their music from fresh angles.

About John and celeste
A little bit about Jon and Celeste, who'll be running the day:
Jon Clark is a drummer, percussionist and (sometimes) cellist. Improvisation forms an integral part of his approach to connecting and collaborating with other musicians. Having come to free improvisation through playing and studying with artists such as The London Improvisers Orchestra, Steve Beresford and Chris Corsano, he can be regularly found bringing a heavy improv influence to a whole host of projects from alt pop to latin jazz.
Celeste Cantor-Stephens is a musician, improviser and Soundpainter, and a writer and educator-facilitator. She plays the trumpet and other sound-making objects. Her music is creative and exploratory, incorporating sounds from klezmer to jazz, dub to noise, with improvisation at its centre. Celeste has studied widely, including at the Conservatoire de Caen, as a postgraduate at Oxbridge universities, and at the Creative Music Studio, NY: a centre for improvisation co-founded by Ornette Coleman. She has studied with improviser-composers including Dave Douglas and Billy Martin, and with Soundpainting creator Walter Thompson. Celeste has performed as part of various improvising, live composition and Soundpainting ensembles, including with Billy Martin and Friends, and The Walter Thompson Orchestra.
