Talking - Conversations - decsions verbal communications

The higher the number of participants in a `zoom.us` music session I speculate the higher the need for a set protocol, formula, or sensitivity as to who speaks when or who does not speak. Plus topics.

Topics are
  1. Who speaks when?
  2. Is a named person the `chairperson`
  3. What is communicated via speech, and what is to be communicated by text via the `chat` box. The `chat box` is in fact a text box. :D
  4. How does a participant communicate they wish to speak, or do they simply sieze the moment!

PM point of view (POV)

The following work against a systems based, process agreed methodology for handling ad hoc communications during a zoom,us 50;50 line event
  • The multiplicity of devices used by the participants such as: operating system, zoom software versions ( we are using different versions), screen sizes, the variations of the distance between the screen and the viewer: this multiplicity works against a commons process and method. It does not veto a common method, but these factors will increase the risk of failure.
  • PM thinks we could test: appoint a chairperson, they have autonomy of how the conduct the communications, warts and all.
  • Other consideration: the use of graphic-cards. Reason: hand gestures are too small on my screen to be recognised.
  • To be continued

I did not see any problems in this area in the last two on line sessions (May 6 and 13). But I do not see everything. Maybe there should be a request to list problems encountered in the sessions. It should include what systems etc people were using. This would help build up a list of things to avoid.
This would be broader than just talking and visual communications, of course.
I think the chairperson might better to be the Zoom host.
This is transferable, even within a session, so the one not playing could be the host, for example.

Noted:

Chairperson - is the chairperson, who is administrative.
Host - is a zoom-based position with rights on how zoom works
Control room : (another title preferred) a technical position, may be related to live streaming only & or zooom rights to mute and mute participants. Likewise the video.
