Bare bones

Of body

Harrowed hovel

In the site

Of Self

Extravagance of breath

Leeched out

Displaced

In motion

In the taut

Transcendence

Of being

I lift

And twist

Turn

Stall

And shift

In a tide

Of

Unknowing

A voice

Unfastens

Itself

And enters

Its stream

The I

Dissolves

Voiding

Its light

Congealing

In

Shadow

Steve Boyland is a UK-based vocalist and performance/sound artist. His practice, which locates itself in the embodied, improvisational voice, explores the expressive, energetic and metaphysical possibilities of spontaneous sounding and its various interdisciplinary contexts and spatial environments. Working both as a solo artist and in multi-disciplinary collaborations with other artists and academics, he creates live performance and sound installations in art galleries, concert halls, theatres and other public spaces in the UK and internationally. In March 2023 he will undertake an artistic residency with the poet, Sean Borodale at the Steiner House in London, while continuing to teach composition and interdisciplinary practice at the University of Limerick as a visiting lecturer/artist, a position he has held since 2013.
