Commentary - a summary of a conversation between Phil Morton & Martin Hackett

The density index, is a statistical value not a musical value - or expanding the musical value element: a statistical value that is System 50:50 density index of 1 may `sound` different every time it is performed. [ sound? citation required]

Duration: 10 minutes
Players: 10
Ratio: 9 minutes tacet, 1 minute freeplay

The ensemble play 2 pieces with the above settings, the following technically could happen
  1. In the first piece all ten players play at the same time, continuously for one minute, then remain tacet for 9 minutes.
  2. In the second pieces, no player plays at the same time as another player, result 10 minutes of continuous playing or sound
  3. The two outcomes, the pieces will sound very different: they have the same `density index / sound mass
