Phil Morton, I am delighted to be re-launching the Blank Canvas series in Liverpool on July 19th 2017. There is a warm welcome and return of : Htrio plus the first appearance of the house band: The Blank Canvas Octet. Despite the evidence and his testimony of experience ( Mr Morton has delivered over 500 session in free improvisation over 20 years ) Mr Morton is currently irrationally optimistic that the house band could be a key feature in the development of Blank Canvas as a music space, and place for free improvisation in Liverpool.

On this evening the Octet will be playing Phil Morton’s System 50:50, a system that restricts the free improviser to 50% freeplay and 50% tacet throughout the performance of the pieces of music.

A special welcome to Martin Hackett of the Oxford improvisers who is travelling up specially for the show. It will be a show.
